My Story - Bo O'dell
Updated: May 25, 2019
My story starts in Kissimmee, FL where I played high school ball at Osceola High School. My high school senior year was a great one with a 12-0 record and a .91 ERA on the mound, the only problem was I was an uncommitted RHP who sat 90 late in the game. I always had the dream to play after high school and beyond but wasn’t getting recruited.
I then popped up on the radar of a few pro scouts as a 6’3’’ righty with a lot of upside who could grow into his frame. I ended up getting drafted out of high school in the 23rd round by the Braves. Once that happened, I had three or four junior colleges who started the recruiting process. I ended up at Seminole Community College for a year.
The summer after high school led me down a different path than professional baseball. I continued to progress and started getting recruited by Division 1 schools; Auburn, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida State. I decided on playing at Florida State. The school I always wanted to go to now wanted me to play for them. I played for FSU for three seasons, 2006-2009.
I had success at the college level leading my team in ERA one season and helping get to the College World Series in 2008. We had a successful year and were the number one team in the country and tied the NCAA record for most wins to start the season going 25-0. It was an amazing year and I was honored to be a part of it.
My senior year was lackluster and I pitched with an injury for the entire season, never really pitching up to my expectations I knew at the end of this year that my baseball career was going to be over and it was one of the hardest things I have dealt with in my life. I always wanted to be around baseball and the first thing that I was approached with was high school coaching.
I started coaching high school in 2010 and am now in my 10th season coaching at the high school level. I have also coached for four seasons of travel baseball in Florida for the Orlando Scorpions which is a highly regarded travel ball team in Florida as well as throughout the country.
It has been my job to get players to the next level if they have the ability for the last 10 years but it has been on a small scale. With the opportunity the CAA team has given me, I will be able to help players throughout Florida to live their dreams of playing baseball at the college level and beyond. This is where my heart is at and it is the foundation of College Athlete Advantage.
